ILLYUS & BARRIENTOS | OUR CITY, OUR HANGOUTS | GLASGOW

-

We welcome Glaswegian duo, on a meteoric rise to the top of their game, Illyus and Barrientos to kick off our ‘City hangouts’ features where we delve into the lives of top artists to give you an insight into the places they hang-out in their home towns and provide a handy guide to inspire you to visit.

After a crazy year of touring in 2019, spanning from Africa to Europe and many trips to the USA in between, what better way to begin 2020 than in their hometown -Glasgow!

Top 5 Bars/Pubs

1. A recent new discovery is the Old Toll Bar. While it’s an old known pub in Glasgow, it’s changed hands and turned into this comfy place for everyone.
2. We love a fire to sit at so come along and join us at the Belle on Great Western road. Right comfy gaff (place for any non Weegie’s*) with a nice vibe.
3. Ubiquitous chip – Another fireplace & our favourite beer on tap…… Riegler.
4. Cocktail BABY!!!! Anyone that knows us will be aware that we love a pink drink in a nice glass. Check The Spiritualist out if you’re wanting to look right suave.

5. We love coffee so a place needs a mention in here. Southside of Glasgow there is a great place called Grain & Grind. Nice to chill with your laptop, book, music & let the day pass you by.

Weegie’s* = People from Glasgow.

Top 5 eating joints.

1. Errols pizza!!!!! Best Pizza in Glasgow sitting right in the middle of Victoria Road. From the size to the taste to the atmosphere, love it.

2. El perro negro is a tiny burger joint that keeps it simple rather than all the fancy big patty shit. Check it out save some money & enjoy.
3. Julie’s kopitiam is great Malasyian restaurant in Shawlands. Apparently Julie started it all from a little street food truck & the rest is history. It’s a real hot spot where no bookings are taken, so be prepared to wait but so worth it.
 4. If you’re looking for a cheap steak but a great cut of meat visit the Finsbay Flatiron on Woodlands Road. 25/30 pounds max for 2 people …. obviously you will start adding a wines & then the night goes downhill but that’s you own doing then haha.
5. We’ve not really addressed Breakfast & lunch so let’s get it sorted. On Queen Margaret Drive there is a great little place called Comet pieces which only serves rolls with a variation on toppings. It’s a real must if you’re visiting the city & need a quick yet tasty scran as we call it.

Where do you go to relax?

Home!! Seriously after all the travelling & amazing gigs there is nothing better than home.

Where do you go to party?

Ohhhh that’d be telling! We mostly have a good time when away gigging but in Glasgow, you can go clubbing in the Subbie (Sub Club), La cheetah, swg3 or The Berkley Suite. There are some great gig venues in Glasgow too such as the Flying Duck, Hug & pint & King Tuts.

Subbie (Sub Club)

One of our favourites is Stereo though. This place has some nice memories for us as it was a regular bonding spot for us after a good studio session. Our first studio was slap bang in the city centre so stereo was the perfect fit.

Last point on it ….. it’s a great vegan spot for the vegan troops visiting the city.

What makes Glasgow so special?

The Glagsow slogan is ‘People Make Glasgow’.

?: Artur Kraft

We gave you all the hints & tips about spots in Glasgow but it would be nothing without the amazing people living in the best city in the world. We love our home!

‘Must try’ food or drink native to your city…?

We discussed this with our manager the other day. 100% try a pizza crunch with curry sauce from a chippy (Chip shop). Pizza in batter, what a delight.

Thanks guys!
