We caught up with Sachi to get to know the pair better and hear more about growing up in New Zealand, local tips, inspiration and more.
Where are you from?
AUCKLAND, New Zealand.

Has growing up in New Zealand influenced the style of music you produce?
I definitely think so. Being so isolated means we kinda have a skewed perception of every culture outside our own. We only really have the internet to know what?s going on in the rest of the world.

Tell us about your favourite home-town hangouts…
There?s so many! But I think ours is defs the Ponsonby Food Court. Basically just a food court with like 10+ restaurants from all over the world. That?s a regular friday spot for us. Fed Deli and William?s Eatery are our other go-to’s.
What artists are your biggest musical inspirations and why?
Have been loving the new Charlie Puth stuff, also Flume?s production is just constantly groundbreaking. A lot of classic French and UK dance music too.

This fall you’re heading off on an US tour with Phantoms. What are you most looking forward to about the trip?
We?ve only ever been to NYC and LA. So we?re really looking forward to checking out more cities in the USA, also keen to look at the White House.

What 5 travel essential items will you be packing for the tour?
+ Toothbrush.
+ Neck pillow.
+ A good book.
+ Power bank.
+ Water bottle.
How was your experience of performing at The Roxy in Los Angeles?
It was amazing! it?s always a bit daunting going into a room where no one knows you, but it turned out to be a great show. The Roxy is such a quintessential LA venue too, the day of the show we were watching videos of Amy Winehouse and Linkin Park playing there. It was one of our favourite shows ever, we had loads of fun. And, both our mums flew over for it!
Tell us more ??Sparking My Fire? and the inspiration behind it…

The day we wrote it with ROE was the first time we had met her, we were having a long talk about family and this was at the time of the Los Angeles Fire, and it turned out that one of ROE?s family homes got caught up in it. I suppose that put the ?Fire? idea at the front of our minds, and once we started writing it we tried to turn that into this epic empowering love anthem. Once we had the song down over some keys and basic drums, we took it back to NZ and produced it into what it is now. We definitely were imagining how it would feel in a concert setting, and now it?s one of our favourite songs in the set list. Listen to ‘Sparking my fire’ here.
Thanks guys!
