Number 1 rated Australian DJ, MaRLo has been tearing up dancefloors globally both at festivals and his own shows, as well as his successful run of events, Altitude. His accomplishments don’t stop there. MaRLo, real name Marlo Hoogstraten also plays his part in giving a chance to the next generation of artists through his own label, ?Reaching Altitude?, a sub label of the legendary Armada Music.
We sat down with the Dutch-born and Australian raised DJ to delve into his world of touring ahead of his appearances at Festival X in Australia & New Zealand.
Where were you on your last overseas trip?
I tour Internationally constantly, so my last tour was last week and it was to play Creamfields (UK), Mysteryland (Amsterdam), Belfast Vital (Belfast) all in one weekend.
The trip before that I was I was in Europe for all of July for the European summer Festival season – One of the highlights was playing Tomorrowland MAINSTAGE which has always been a big dream of mine.
You’ve grown up between The Netherlands and Australia. How long have you lived in Australia now?
Since 1993. I truly consider myself an Aussie to be honest.
Do you still get back to The Netherlands regularly?
About 5 times per year… for touring, but I always try and take a few days extra so I can see my friends there.
In Australia when you’re back home from a tour what are your favourite thing to do?
HOME! Just being home with my family and friends around is my absolute favourite.
What are the 5 items that you can’t live without on the road?
- A good multivitamin.
- My laptop.
- Caffeine.
- A variety of different T-Shirts.
- Good food.
What gigs are coming up for you?
I have a big long tour starting next week which includes shows in Vancouver, ASOT Mexico, Egypt, Netherlands, Spain, Transmission Prague and soon after that a big Asia tour kicks off which includes shows like Altitude Kuala Lumpur, Vietnam, Taiwan, EDC China, Creamfields China and loads more.
Any new music in the pipeline we need to hear about?
YES! The Altitude 2019 The Power Withim Anthem song comes out first week of October, and I also have a vocal tune scheduled. Besides that there are about 3 other big tunes I’m working on but I can’t reveal too much about those just yet.
