Brooklyn-based electronic artist Flamingosis has announced today that his much anticipated full length album project Daymaker will be released on 25th June 2021. The album, which features latest singles ‘Wild Summer’, ‘Daymaker’ & ‘Cosmic Feeling’, will be available as a limited edition 180g double LP with pink discs, which comes with a 12×24 poster insert. It will drop alongside a limited merch run consisting of a vinyl, a beach towel, sunglasses and more exclusive items.
Alongside the album announcement, Flamingosis has released the dates for his extensive North American fall tour, which will see him play 24 live shows hitting all major markets, running from September through to December 2021. An artist presale will begin 6/9 at 10AM local time with code WILDSUMMER. General on-sale begins Friday at 10AM local time. Full tour dates are listed below.
Daymaker is an electronic journey through time and space, melding high energy future-funk beats with melodic soundscapes, spaced out synths, and groovy guitar riffs. In 2019, he began to widen his sonic palette. For the first time, he hit the studio with collaborators to architect what would become Daymaker. He worked closely with an all-star cast of musicians, including keyboardist Borahm Lee [Pretty Lights], Jeff Franca [Thievery Corporation], Hunter Roberts, hip-hop funk duo Recess and Mike Tallman [Euforquestra], all while incorporating samples from the late ’70s-early ’80s from the likes of Graham Central Station, Tim Maia, The Voices of East Harlem, Eddie Hazel, Niteflyte, and more.
“It’s the first time I’ve made original compositions in a studio session with musicians,” he elaborates. “I was initially scared, but so much great material came out of the sessions. We weren’t just passing files back and forth online. It was hands-on. You never know if it’s a full band or an electronic hip-hop beat. It was so cool to make music in a new way.”
The homage to the 70s/80s time period is carried on throughout the album on a personal level, with various samples of his own father and uncle being interviewed in their Freestyle Frisbee World Championship days. The video for ‘Wild Summer’, which was released last August, was composed solely of found footage of the two competing in frisbee competitions. Their legacy even inspired Flamingosis’ name – a move which he describes as “a reverse spinning catch on one leg, like a flamingo”.
He says of Daymaker, “It’s a continuation of what I’ve been doing with my music for a while. I try to make each album uplifting. If you’re not feeling the best in the moment, the goal is to get you to a better place. Like a light at the end of the tunnel, the album reminds you things are going to be alright no matter how hard they seem. Hopefully, it puts you into an elevated state of Mind.”
To celebrate the release of Daymaker, on 6/18 Flamingosis will hold a Super Smash Brothers Tournament with sign-ups open to the public, with the winner gaining early album listening access and a merch pack. There will also be a Twitch album livestream release party held on Relix on 6/24. More details to follow. Stay tuned in to Flamingosis’s social media channels for updates.
