FRANKIE SALT INTERVIEW WITH BACK N FOURTH
What gigs or festivals are you heading to this summer, physically or virtually?
We had planned a few Irish festivals but unfortunately covid has put a halt to them plans. Park life looks stacked it will go off, would be nice to catch Eric Prydz at it. The warehouse project in Manchester in Sept is always a special gig. The Kissstory festival in London will be sick, we do love our old-school classics.
Do you have a gig coming up which particularly excites you?
We were really looking forward to WILD ROOTS which was the first real major festival to come to our hometown Sligo in Ireland in a long time, or even the biggest to date. There was a huge line-up stacked with loads of up-and-coming Irish talent right across the board. We were big fans of Bookashade, back in the day it would have been nice to see them do a live performance. It would have been nice for us to play to our hometown crowd also but covid put a stop to any plans, I guess there is always next year.
Funniest memory from any gig or festival?
We went to see Deadmau5 playing The Clarence nightclub Sligo. Some drunk dude spilt a drink on his gear from up above on a balcony. He absolutely lost it and started smashing up the stage, kicked a hole in speaker, stopped the music and wouldn’t play until he got the guy thrown out the venue. I think he may have had a few too many coronas himself! What a guy, it was a great gig…
What/who did you miss the most over the last year of lockdown?
There were many things, but the gym was a big one for us. Even though lockdown let us have time to make more music we were never physically there in the studio together and that spark that we usually have making music just wasn’t the same over zoom. So yeah, I guess you could say we missed each other’s company and missed the buzz of knowing you have made a banger in the studio, any producer will know this feeling.
Tell us about any skills you have gained over the last year?
Good question! Kieran has learned how to cut his own hair – a fade cut to be precise and he has also trained to be a Barista. Paul has become addicted to the gym and taught himself how to cook proper fitness grub.
When it comes to the studio, we have had the time to polish some of our sound, tighten things up mixing and mastering and developing more sounds to our armour.
